Tomi Lahren, a conservative commentator with ‘TheBlaze,’ was “banned permanently” after sharing her pro-choice comments. Now reports says that The Blaze claims her Facebook page with over over 4.2 million Facebook fans is owned by site.
They’re playing hardball and saying nyet to her demands to take those fans with her. Lahren thinks she’s more marketable if she has those 4.2 million fans following her to wherever she ends up. The Blaze hasn’t said anything about her 720,000 Instagram fans or her 686,000 Twitter followers, so those look safe.
TheBlaze and Lahren reportedly separated ways following a March 17 appearance on The View. During her discussion with the hosts, she revealed that she is pro-choice.
She explained, “I can’t sit here and be a hypocrite and say ‘I’m for limited government, but I think that the government should decide what women do with their bodies.'”
TheBlaze’s Glenn Beck was among those who reportedly disapproved and decided Lahren and the network weren’t that great a fit after all.
According to TMZ, “she has 6 months left on her contract and she’s currently negotiating a severance package which includes a payout and a possible time out where she can’t work anywhere else.”
We saw something similar when BuzzFeed personality Matt Bellassai struck out on his own after achieving internet celebrity via his video series “Whine About It.” Although Bellassai built his fanbase on social media, BuzzFeed retained his 1.5 million fans when he left the company and had to start amassing a following over from scratch. The same may be the case for Lahren’s 4.2 million Facebook fans.
Can we make #FreeLahren go viral? It’s important that we don’t let this injustice continue.
