Hawaii residents were thrown into a panic Saturday morning after an emergency alert was mistakenly sent, warning them to “seek immediate shelter” from a ballistic missile threat, and it took emergency officials 38 minutes to send a new alert to mobile phones that the threat was a false alarm.
Hawaii Emergency Management Agency Administrator Vern Miyagi said at a press conference with the governor Saturday afternoon that a single individual sent out the alert by mistake. The individual went so far as to click through a second message, intended as a safeguard, that asked whether the alert should go out.
For some it was panic, a dash to a protective bathtub or hiding under manholes, contemplating what could be their last moments. For others, a resigned acceptance, thinking that staring at the beauty of Hawaii was not a bad way to go.
We had thought that Jamie Lee Curtis had the award wrapped up for stupidest celebrity tweet about that false ballistic missile alarm that sent Hawaii into a panic Saturday. “YOU DID THIS,” Curtis tweeted, laying the blame firmly on President Trump, even though it turned out someone just hit the wrong button during a shift change. Curtis has a challenger, though. Jim Carrey has weighed in, and he also is blaming the “one-man Gomorrah” Donald Trump for giving him a scare as he woke up Saturday.
Jim Carrey thought that he had just minutes to live when a government alert was sent out to people’s phones on Saturday (January 13), saying that a “ballistic missile” was heading to Hawaii.
“Emergency Alert: BALLISTIC MISSILE THREAT INBOUND TO HAWAII. SEEK IMMEDIATE SHELTER. THIS IS NOT A DRILL,” the message read. It was sent out just after 8am local time.
While everything is fine in Hawaii, Hollywood actor Jim Carrey took a moment to comment on the issue. Carrey’s reaction — a head-turning political shot at the GOP — is both over the top and bizarre.
I woke up this morning in Hawaii with ten minutes to live. It was a false alarm, but a real psychic warning. If we allow this one-man Gomorrah and his corrupt Republican congress to continue alienating the world we are headed for suffering beyond all imagination. ;^\ pic.twitter.com/Kwca91IIy2

So the false alarm was a “real psychic warning” about the president and GOP-led Congress alienating the world?
