Most Muslims do not eat pork products, such as bacon, for religious reasons. A Muslim advocacy group is calling on McDonald’s to fire the employee or employees responsible for what they said was a act of intentional malice toward a Muslim family dining at a franchise of the fast food restaurant in North Alabama.
The Alabama chapter Council on American-Islamic Relations is alleging someone at the McDonald’s off Point Mallard Parkway intentionally placed small pieces of bacon in a Muslim family’s McChicken sandwiches.
The family had spent the day at Point Mallard Water Park and stopped at McDonald’s at 3342 Point Mallard Parkway at Interstate 65 for lunch said Khaula Hadeed, executive director of the Alabama chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations.
After noticing a “smoky” taste in the sandwiches, the family opened the sandwiches to find a single small piece of bacon in each sandwich, Hadeed said.
“The bacon was either on top of the chicken or hidden underneath within the sandwich so (the consumer) couldn’t tell if it was there or not. That’s why we think this was intentional,” she said.
McDonald’s was quick to deny the claim after being contacted by DailyMail.com, with a representative of the local restaurant saying it was not an ‘intentional act’.
‘They ordered 14 sandwiches. They started noticing it tasted different to them,’ Khaula Hadeed, head of the Alabama chapter of the Council on American- Islamic Relations, told Alabama.com on Tuesday.
‘They eat McChicken all the time at McDonald’s. They knew what they ordered – they know what’s in the sandwich.’
The video, which appeared to have originally been shared on Snapchat, included the caption: ‘Bacon in all our sandwiches…’
