Professor Who Says “Texans Deserve Harvey For Supporting Trump” Is Fired

University of Tampa Assistant Sociology professor Kenneth Storey was “relieved of his duties” at the university after a series of tweets that implied the weather catastrophe in Texas was “karma.” University of Tampa professor suggested that Texans deserve the fallout from Hurricane Harvey because of their support for Donald Trump in the 2016 election.

“I don’t believe in instant Karma but this kinda feels like it for Texas,” Ken Storey posted from his personal Twitter account Sunday, according to Campus Reform. “Hopefully this will help them realize the GOP doesn’t care about them.”

From there, Storey only fanned the flames further. Another Twitter user pointed out that the UT professor teaches in a state that also went to President Donald Trump in the 2016 election, quipping, “so we must deserve some bad karma too, right?”

Storey reportedly replied, “Yep, those who voted for him here deserve it as well.”

The original post, captured by conservative websites Turning Point USA and Campus Reform before it was removed. Both tweets have since been deleted. Late Monday night, Storey apologized on his twitter account saying “I deeply regret a statement I posted yesterday. I never meant to wish ill will upon any group. I hope all affected by Harvey recover quickly.”

In a Facebook post on Tuesday morning, the university said “Storey has been relieved of his duties at UT, and his classes will be covered by other sociology faculty.”
