Trump, in a discussion last week on immigration policy, allegedly used ‘s***hole’ to refer to certain countries from which large-scale immigration was undesirable.
“Why are we having all these people from shithole countries come here?” Trump reportedly said, before suggesting that the U.S. bring in more immigrants from countries like Norway.
Video shows the word, along with the poop emoji, being projected onto the property. The word “shithole” was projected onto President Trump’s D.C. hotel Saturday.
“Pay Trump bribes here,” “emoluments welcome” and “we are all responsible to stand up and end white supremacy” were also projected onto the building.
The pictures appear on the Twitter feed of Robin Bell, who has previously projected wording critical of the president onto the hotel.
Trump has faced intense backlash for calling Haiti, El Salvador and African nations “shithole countries” during an Oval Office meeting on immigration this week.
The White House initially did not deny that Trump made the remarks, but Trump later disputed the reports on Twitter. Trump on Friday tweeted a convoluted denial about the comments, which were reported by The Washington Post and The New York Times.
But Democratic Senator Dick Durbin said Trump had specifically asked, “Do we need more Haitians?” before launching into a diatribe about African immigration.
Trump then “said things which were hate-filled, vile and racist,” Durbin said, adding that “shithole” was “the exact word used by the president, not just once but repeatedly.”
Lawmakers, media figures and world leaders have all decried Trump’s comments. The African Union, representing all 55 African countries, demanded Saturday that Trump apologize for the remarks.
