The match-up between the Atlanta Falcons and New England Patriots at the Super Bowl on Sunday is being held in tight security conditions. Comedian Bill Maher is rooting for the Atlanta Falcons on Sunday because they’re up against the New England Patriots who have ties to President Trump.
“For the first time in a long time I really care who wins the Super Bowl,” newly minted Falcons fan Bill Maher said on Friday night’s Real Time. It’s not because he’s been a longtime supporter of the city. In fact, he says, “I could give a s— about Atlanta.” The impetus for his sudden change of heart is President Donald Trump.
The political satirist and stand-up comedian then took the time to personally call out Pats’ QB Tom Brady for his support of Trump, including an incident in September 2015 wherein one of Trump’s signature red ‘Make America Great Again’ hats was spotted by reporters in Brady’s locker.
“The Falcons are playing a team where the owner, the coach, and the star quarterback all love and support Donald Trump. So, I’d really like them to lose by a score of a million-f–ing-thousand to none,” he explains. And to Robert Kraft, Bill Belichick, and Tom Brady of the New England Patriots, Maher says, “F— you.”
Maher, a fierce critic of Trump, later lamented how the new POTUS has politicized things that just shouldn’t even be political ― including football. He also mentioned Belichick’s letter to Trump during the campaign.
“Coach Bill Belichick loves Trump so much he sent Trump a fan letter during the campaign,” said Maher. “Wow, that’s some serious butt-licking, coach! Let me give you some advice for the big game: fuck you, Belichick. Fuck you and your deflated balls you joyless cheating fuck!”
